Prognostic and clinical significance of contrast enhancement on preoperative MRI in WHO grade 2 oligodendrogliomas
A retrospective study at Capital Medical University (Beijing, China) investigated the prognostic significance of contrast enhancement (CE) on preoperative MRI in grade 2 oligodendroglioma (ODG) with IDH-mutation and 1p/19q codeletion. Patients with CE had significantly worse progression-free survival and overall survival compared to those without CE. Presence of CE was identified as an independent prognostic factor in multivariate analysis. Factors associated with higher incidence of strong CE were non-frontal lobe location, higher Ki-67 index, and 1q/19p co-polysomy. The authors conclude that CE on preoperative MRI is a valuable prognostic marker in grade 2 ODGs.
