Prediction of severe fatigue after breast cancer diagnosis
Dr. Ines Vaz-Luis
Fatigue is common and troublesome among breast cancer survivors; however, limited tools exist to predict its risk. Analysis of patients in the French multicenter CANTO cohort found that more than one-in-three breast cancer survivors endured persistent severe post-treatment fatigue. Risk factors for the development of severe fatigue 2 years after diagnosis were younger age, higher body mass index, smoking behavior, and concomitant symptom clusters including pretreatment fatigue, anxiety, insomnia and pain. Exploratory analysis identified receipt of hormonal therapy as an additional risk factor for severe fatigue 4 years after diagnosis.
