Data on the epidemiology of prostate cancer are crucial of management en provision of prostate cancer care. A population-based cohort study in the UK investigated incidence, prevalence, and survival rates for prostate cancer. In this study of 198,125 patients in two UK databases, the incidence of prostate cancer increased from 109 per 100,000 person-years in 2000 tot 159 per 100,000 person-years in 2021. Prevalence of prostate cancer increased for 0.4% in 2000 to 1.4% in 2021. One-year survival improved from 90.8% of patients diagnosed from 2000 - 2004 to 94.8% of patients diagnosed from 2005-2019; five-year survival improved from 65.3% to 75.3% in these periods. The authors conclude that these findings suggest a high and increasing burden of prostate cancer in the management of cancer survivorship in an aging population.
