Population-based cohort study of invasive breast cancer and breast cancer death after non-screen detected ductal carcinoma in situ
Dr. Gurdeep Mannu
A population-based study in England evaluated long term risks of invasive breast cancer and death related to breast cancer after non-screen detected ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS). Among 27,543 women with DCIS detected outside the NHS breast screening program during 1990 to 2018, rates of invasive breast cancer and mortality related to breast cancer were significantly higher than population expected rates and also significantly higher
than rates among women with screen detected DCIS. The authors conclude that for at least 25 years after the diagnosis, women with non-screen detected DCIS are at elevated risk of invasive breast cancer and breast cancer death.
