Population-based cohort study of impact of glycemic control on development of pancreatic cancer in patients with type 2 diabetes
Prof. Ka-Shing Cheung
A population-based retrospective cohort study in Hong Kong evaluated the association between optimal glycemic control (HbA1c < 7%; fasting glucose ≤ 7 mmol/L) and risk of development of pancreatic cancer in patients with type 2 diabetes. Optimal glycemic control was associated with decreased risk of pancreatic cancer. Every 1% rise in HbA1c and 1 mmol/L rise in fasting glucose increased risk of pancreatic cancer by 46% and 14%, respectively. Optimal glycemic control was also associated with lower risk of pancreatic cancer-related mortality and all-cause mortality.
