Pooled analysis of timing of recurrence after neoadjuvant chemo-immunotherapy in patients with early-stage triple-negative breast cancer
Dr. Giampaolo Bianchini
Neoadjuvant chemo-immunotherapy for high-risk TNBC has been shown to reduce the risk of recurrence and improve survival. However, the prognosis for patients with metastatic TNBC remains poor, especially for those with early recurrence (within 24 months). Pooled analysis of five clinical trials or neoadjuvant chemo-immunotherapy found that the proportion of early versus total recurrences (after 48 months) ranged from 64.6% (NSABP B-59) to 82.9% (GeparNuevo). This proportion was higher in patients with residual disease after neoadjuvant therapy. The authors conclude that clinical trials are needed to define the optimal therapy for patients with early relapse after neoadjuvant chemo-immunotherapy for TNBC.
