Phase 3 trial of taxane maintenance versus surveillance in advanced ovarian/tubal/peritoneal cancer

The phase 3 GOG 0212 study evaluated maintenance with paclitaxel (P) or paclitaxel poliglumex (PP) versus surveillance for women with complete response after surgery and platinum-taxane chemotherapy for newly diagnosed advanced ovariam/tubal/peritoneal cancer. Grade 2 or worse adverse events were more frequent with the taxanes. Taxane maintenance was associated with modestly increased progression-free survival but not with improved overall survival.The authors conclude that it is unlikely that maintenance therapy with single-agent taxanes will play a significant role in the management of these patients.
