Phase 3 trial of MRI-guided versus CT-guided stereotactic body radiotherapy for prostate cancer
Dr. Amar Kishan
MRI guidance offers multiple theoretical advantages in the context of stereotactic body radiotherapy (SBRT) for prostate cancer. These advantages have yet to be demonstrated in a randomized clinical trial. The phase 3 MIRAGE study, at the University of California Los Angeles, randomized patients who were receiving SBRT for localized prostate cancer 1:1 to MRI-guidance or CT-guidance. The incidence of moderate acute physician-scored toxic effects and decrements in patient-reported quality of life was significantly lower after MRI-guided SBRT compared with CT-guided SBRT (visual abstract).
