Phase 3 trial of chemoradiotherapy with or without simultaneous integrated boost for cervical cancer with full-thickness stromal invasion

Patients with cervical cancer exhibiting full-thickness or outer full-thickness stromal invasion after radical hysterectomy face high risks of recurrence. A phase 3 randomized clinical trial of 466 of these patients found that simultaneous integrated boost (SIB) chemoradiotherapy compared with conventional chemoradiotherapy was associated with a statistically significant improvement in 3-year progression-free survival (84.6% versus 76.8%). The authors conclude that these results support integration of SIB radiotherapy in adjuvant therapy for these patients.
