Phase 3 trial of allogeneic HCT vs standard consolidation chemotherapy for intermediate-risk AML
Prof. Matthias Stelljes
The ideal postremission strategy for patients with intermediate-risk acute myeloid leukemia (AML) in first-complete remission is not clear. A phase 3 trial at 16 centers in Germany randomized patients aged 60 years or younger, with an available donor, to allogeneic hematopoietic cell transplantation or standard chemotherapy. The primary end point was overall survival. The allo-HCT group had better disease-free survival (69% versus 40% at two years) but not overall survival.
