Phase 3 trial of addition of nivolumab versus placebo to first-line chemotherapy and bevacizumab for advanced nsqNSCLC: overall survival analysis

The phase 3 ONO-4538-52/TASUKI-53 trial in Japan, South Korea, and Taiwan included patients with previously untreated advanced nonsquamous non-small cell lung cancer without known driver mutations in ALK, EGFR, or ROS1. Patients were randomized to nivolumab versus placebo, both added to six cycles platinum chemotherapy and bevacizumab, followed by nivolumab/placebo plus bevacizumab until disease progression or unacceptable toxicity. Overall survival analysis of the study found that OS was significantly longer in the nivolumab group compared with the placebo group. The authors conclude that nivolumab plus platinum chemotherapy and bevacizumab is a viable first-line therapy for advanced nsqNSCLC without driver mutations in ALK, EGFR, or ROS1.
