Phase 3 trial of addition of carboplatin to neoadjuvant sequential taxane-anthracycline in triple-negative breast cancer

Dr. Sudeep Gupta

A phase 3 trial at Tata Memorial Center (Mumbai, India) evaluated the survival impact of adding carboplatin to standard taxane-anthracycline neoadjuvant chemotherapy in triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC). Patients were randomized to neoadjuvant carboplatin plus paclitaxel for 8 weeks followed by four cycles of anthracycline plus cyclophosphamide, or the same regimen without carboplatin. The median duration of follow-up was 67.6 months. Addition of carboplatin did not significantly improve event-free survival but did improve overall survival, with benefits confined to premenopausal patients.
