Phase 3 study of perioperative pembrolizumab plus chemotherapy for locally advanced G/GEJ cancer: final analysis of KEYNOTE-585

The phase 3 KEYNOTE-585 trial, at 143 centers in 24 countries, evaluated addition of pembrolizumab or placebo to perioperative chemotherapy, followed by pembrolizumab or placebo maintenance among patients with previously untreated, resectable, locally advanced gastric or gastroesophageal junction cancer. Final analysis of the trial found that addition of pembrolizumab resulted in nonsignificant improvement of overall survival with a trend toward longer event-free survival, with no worsening of health-related quality of life.
