Phase 3 study of addition of TACE to RFA as initial treatment for early-stage hepatocellular carcinoma

Long-term follow-up of a phase 3 study at Sun Yat-sen University (Guangzhou, China) found that addition of transcatheter arterial chemoembolization to radiofrequency ablation as initial treatment for early-stage hepatocellular carcinoma resulted in better survival. The survival difference between TACE-RFA and RFA alone was seen in almost all subgroups. Complications of the treatment were comparable between the two arms of the study.
