Phase 2 trial of toxicities of stereotactic ablative radiotherapy for up to 5 oligometastases in patients with cancer
Dr. Robert Olson
After the publication of the SABR-COMET trial, concerns arose regarding high-grade toxic effects of stereotactic ablative body radiotherapy (SABR) for oligometastases (up to 5 metastases). The phase 2 SABR-5 trial in British Columbia (Canada) found that the incidence of grade 3 or higher toxic effects of SABR for oligometastatic disease was less than 5%. Rates of grade 2 or higher toxic effects (18.6%) was lower than previously reported in SABR-COMET (29%). The authors conclude that SABR for oligometastases has acceptable rates of toxic effects.
