The prognosis of stage II-III non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) remains poor, with limited value of chemoradiotherapy and targeted therapy. The phase 2 LungMate 002 trial at Tongji University (Shanghai, China) evaluated neoadjuvant toripalimab (anti-PD-1) in combination with carboplatin-based chemotherapy for stage II-III NSCLC. The combination was safe and effective. Surgery could be achieved in all patients initially judged as having resectable disease and 65.8% of patients initially judged as having potentially resectable disease. R0 resection was performed for all patients who underwent surgery. There was a high major pathologic response rate (55.6%), including complete pathologic response in 27.8% of patients.
