Phase 2 trial of axitinib plus avelumab for recurrent or metastatic adenoid cystic carcinoma

A phase 2 study at MD Anderson Cancer Center evaluated the combination of the VEGFR inhibitor and the PD-L1 inhibitor in patients with recurrent or metastatic adenoid cystic carcinoma with evidence of disease progression within six months. The study reached its primary end point with a confirmed ORR of 18%. The toxicity profile of the combination was similar to what has been reported with single-agent axitinib in adenoid cystic carcinoma.
