Phase 2 study of pyrotinib combined with trastuzumab plus chemotherapy for heavily pretreated HER2-positive metastatic breast cancer
Prof. Cai-Wen Du
There is a substantial unmet need for effective and safe treatment options for patients with heavily pretreated HER2-positive metastatic breast cancer (mBC). A phase 2 study at Shenzhen University (China) evaluated the combination of pyrotinib-trastuzumab-chemotherapy for these patients. The median progression-free survival (mPFS) among al patients was 7.5 months, while the mPFS in the subgroup with brain metastases was 9.4 months. The mPFS
was 6.0 months in the subgroup with liver and/or lung metastases and was not reached in the subgroup without these metastases. There were no new safety signals. The authors conclude that pyrotinib plus trastuzumab and chemotherapy was a promising option for heavily pretreated HER2-positive mBC.
