Phase 1 trial of PEP-CMV vaccine for recurrent high-grade glioma in children and young adults
Dr. Eric Thompson
The human cytomegalovirus (CMV) antigen pp65 is expressed in high-grade glioma (HGG) but not in the adjacent brain. A phase 1 trial at Duke University (Durham, NC) evaluated the peptide vaccine PEP-CMV targeting pp65 in patients (3-35 years old) with recurrent HGG. PEP-CMV was well tolerated and elicited antigen-specific responses. The median progression-free survival was 2.5 months (95% CI 2.2-3.2) and the median overall survival was 6.5 months (4.6-8.4).
