Nelfinavir is an HIV-1 protease inhibitor that has been shown to sensitize cancer cells to chemoradiation. A phase 1 study at the Universities of Miami and Pennsylvania evaluated addition of nelfinavir to concurrent cisplatin and pelvic radiation for locally advanced cervical cancer. Treatment was well tolerated. Ten of eleven evaluable patients remained without evidence of disease at a median follow-up of 50 months.
