The multinational phase 2 study KEYNOTE-057 cohort A evaluated pembrolizumab monotherapy for non-muscle-invasive bladder cancer unresponsive to BCG in patients who were ineligible for or declined radical cystectomy. The rate of clinical complete response at three months was 41% (95% CI 30.7-51.1). The treatment was tolerated well. The authors conclude that pembrolizumab should be considered a clinically active non-surgical treatment option in this difficult-to-treat population.
