Pan-cancer germline testing in patients with pediatric solid tumors

Dr. Michael Walsh

A study at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center (New York) found one or more germline pathogenic or likely pathogenic variants in 18% of pediatric patients with solid tumors. Thirty-four percent of high- or moderate-penetrance variants werd unexpected based on the patient’s diagnosis and history. The authors conclude that germline testing should be considered for all children with cancer.
