A study at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center (New York, NY) compared various treatments for intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma. Among lymph node-positive patients resection and hepatic artery infusion chemotherapy resulted in similar outcomes (median 19.7 and 18.1 months, respectively), while both treatments had better outcomes than systemic chemotherapy alone (median 11.2 months; p=0.024). Among lymph node-negative patients, resection was associated with the longest OS (median 59.9 months), followed by HAIC (median 24.9 months), followed by systemic chemotherapy (median 13.7 months) (p<0.001). Presence of high-risk genetic alterations provides valuable prognostic information that may help guide treatment.
