Observational retrospective study of value of timely germline BRCA testing after breast cancer diagnosis
Dr. Anne Vibeke-Laenkholm
A retrospective observational study in Denmark included 7,145 women with breast cancer from 2000-2017 who had a BRCA test; 403 patients had a BRCA1 pathogenic variant and 317 had a BRCA2
pathogenic variant. The median duration of follow-up was 10.8 years. Among 7145 patients, 2169 (30%) received their BRCA test timely, i.e., within 6 months after diagnosis. Timely testing was associated with increased contralateral risk-reducing mastectomy rates and improved overall survival among BRCA1/2 pathogenic variant carriers.
