Non-inferiority study of lobaplatin-based versus cisplatin-based treatment for phase III-IVB nasopharyngeal cancer

A multicenter non-inferiority phase 3 study in China compared lobaplatin-based induction chemotherapy and chemoradiotherapy versus cisplatin-based induction chemotherapy and chemoradiotherapy for stage III-IVB nasopharyngeal carcinoma. The lobaplatin-based treatment resulted in non-inferior progression-free survival (75.0% versus 75.5% at five years; p for non-inferiority = 0.0070) and in fewer toxic effects compared with the cisplatin-based treatment.
