A study at Sun Yat-sen University Cancer Center (Guangzhou, China) aimed to establish a nomogram using routinely available clinicopathological parameters to predict the response to neoadjuvant chemotherapy (nCT) or chemoradiotherapy (nCRT) in patients with locally advanced gastric cancer (LAGC). The study included 221 LAGC patients undergoing nCT or nCRT. Good response (GR) to neoadjuvant treatment was defined as complete or near-complete pathological regression and ypN0. GR was seen in 24.4% of patients, and was associated with improved survival outcomes. Five independent factors, including pretreatment tumor differentiation, clinical T stage, monocyte count, CA724 level, and use of nCRT were associated with GR. The nomogram based on these five factors predicted GR with an AUC of 0.777 (95% CI 0.705-0.850) and a bias-corrected AUC of 0.752. The authors conclude that the nomogram exhibited a high predictive capability for GR.
