Nine-week versus one-year trastuzumab for early HER2-positive breast cancer: ten-year update of the phase 3 ShortHER trial
Prof. PierFranco Conte
The multicenter phase 3 ShortHER trial in Italy randomized women with HER2-positive early breast cancer to nine weeks versus one year of adjuvant trastuzumab added to anthracyclines-taxane combinations. Ten-year update of the study showed that one year trastuzumab remains the standard treatment as noninferiority could not be claimed. However, the differences in ten-year DFS and OS for patients at low or intermediate risk (N0/N1-3) were negliglibe, while patients with N4+ disease had a clear benefit with one-year over nine-weeks of trastuzumab.
