NCDB analysis of addition of radiotherapy to hormonal therapy for de novo metastatic hormone-sensitive prostate cancer
Dr. Michael Leapman
Prostate radiotherapy (RT) is increasingly used in the treatment of hormone-sensitive metastatic prostate cancer based on evidence of benefit in subsets with low disease volume. An observational retrospective study using the National Cancer Database found that addition of RT to hormonal therapy (HT) for de novo metastatic HSPC was associated with overall survival benefit (HR 0.62; 95% CI 0.58-0.66); this effect was statistically significant among patients with nodal metastases (0.48; 0.39-0.58) and among patients with bone metastases (0.60; 0.56-0.65) but not among patients with visceral metastases (0.91;0.74-1.13).
