Nationwide population-based study of transformation and survival of follicular lymphoma in Finland
. Prof. Sirpa Leppä
A nationwide population-based study among follicular lymphoma (FL) patients in Finland found a 10-year relative survival of 78%, with improvement of prognosis over time from 1995 to 2018. Ten-year cumulative transformation incidence
was 8.4%. Transformation was associated with a significantly increased risk of death (HR 5.0; p<0.001). Grade 3A FL was associated with higher excess mortality compared to patients with low-grade FL. Lymphoma was the most common cause of death. The authors conclude that, although the 10-year RS was relatively good, grade 3A FL and transformation were associated with poor prognosis.
