Nationwide cohort study in The Netherlands of outcomes of endometrial cancer prevention strategies in Lynch syndrome carriers
Dr. Anja Wagner
Female Lynch syndrome (LS) carriers are at increased risk of developing endometrial cancer. A nationwide retrospective cohort study in The Netherlands investigated outcomes of endometrial cancer prevention strategies in LS carriers. Among 1046 LS-carriers eligible for gynecologic surveillance, nearly one-third did not undergo surveillance. Endometrial carcinomas diagnosed during surveillance were slightly more ofter stage FIGO IA, but this did not seem to substantially decrease the need for adjuvant radiotherapy or affect overall survival. The authors conclude that these results question effectiveness of current gynecologic management.
