Multinational randomized trial of neoadjuvant chemotherapy for locally-advanced colon cancer
Prof. Dion Morton
The multinational randomized FOxTROT trial found that among patients with locally advanced but resectable colon cancer, 6 weeks of neoadjuvant oxaliplatin-fluoropyrimidine chemotherapy followed by surgery and 16 weeks of adjuvant chemotherapy could be delivered safely , without increasing perioperative morbidity. This neoadjuvant regimen produced marked histopathologic downstaging, and fewer incomplete resections and better 2-year disease control when compared with a 24 weeks adjuvant chemotherapy regimen.
