Multinational randomized phase 2 trial of targeted therapy induction followed by immunotherapy for advanced melanoma with BRAF-V600 mutation

The phase 2 EBIN trial, at 37 centers in eight countries, randomized patients with advanced melanoma with BRAFV600E or BRAFV600K mutations to an induction regimen of encorafenib-binimetinib before first-line nivolumab-ipilimumab (n=136) or nivolumab-ipilimumab without induction (n=135). The median progression-free survival in both groups was 9 months. The authors conclude that the targeted-therapy induction regimen did not improve progression-free survival compared with first-line treatment with immune checkpoint inhibitors in patients with advanced melanoma with BRAFV600E or BRAFV600K mutations .
