Outcomes are poor in patients with HER2-negative, advanced gastric or gastro-esophageal junction (G/GEJ) adenocarcinoma. The multinational randomized phase 2 FIGHT trial evaluated addition of the anti-FGFR2b monoclonal antibody bemarituzumab versus placebo to mFOLFOX6 for FGFR2b-selected G/GEJ adenocarcinoma. The median progression-free survival was 9.5 months with bemarituzumab versus 7.4 months with placebo (HR 0.68; p=0.073). The authors conclude that despite no statistically significant improvement in PFS, treatment with bemarituzumab showed promising clinical efficacy.
