The multinational phase 3 CheckMate 816 trial compared neoadjuvant nivolumab plus chemotherapy versus neoadjuvant chemotherapy alone for resectable stage IB-IIIA NSCLC. Final analysis of overall survival significantly favored neoadjuvant nivolumab plus chemotherapy over chemotherapy alone. At a median follow-up of 68.4 months, the 5-year OS rate was 65.4% versus 55.0% (HR 0.72; p=0.048), with consistency across most subgroups. The 5-year OS rate in the nivolumab-chemotherapy group was 95.3% among patients with pathological complete response and 55.7% among patients without pCR.
