Multinational phase 3 trial of ibrutinib plus bendamustine and rituximab for untreated mantle-cell lymphoma

The multinational phase 3 SHINE trial compared ibrutinib versus placebo in combination with bendamustine and rituximab, followed by rituximab maintenance therapy, for previously untreated mantle-cell lymphoma in patients 65 years of age or older. The progression-free survival was significantly prolonged with ibrutinib. The safety profile of the combined therapy was consistent with the known profiles of the individual drugs.
