The phase 3 POD1UM-304 trial, at 124 centers in 16 countries, evaluated addition of retifanlimab versus placebo to first-line platinum-based chemotherapy for non-squamous or squamous metastatic non-small cell lung cancer. Median overall survival was longer with retifanlimab than with placebo (18.1 months versus 13.4 months; HR 0.75; p=0.0042). The safety profile of retifamlimab-chemotherapy was representative of previous PD-1 and PD-L1 inhibitor-chemotherapy combinations. The authors conclude that adding retifanlimab to first-line chemotherapy could be a treatment option for patients with non-squamous or squamous mNSCLC.
