Multinational phase 3 study of rucaparib maintenance after primary treatment for advanced ovarian cancer

PARP inhibitors have shown efficacy as first-line maitenance treatment for patients with ovarian cancer. However, questions remain about which patients may benefit from their use. The multinational phase 3 ATHENA-MONO trial evaluated rucaparib monotherapy maintenance after surgical cytoreduction for stage III-IV high-grade ovarian cancer responding to first-line platinum-doublet chemotherapy. The study showed that rucaparib monotherapy was effective as first-line maintenance in patients with advanced ovarian cancer with and without homologous recombination deficiency.
