Multinational phase 3 study of radioembolization with chemotherapy for colorectal liver metastases

An estimated 60% of patients diagnosed with colorectal cancer eventually will have liver disease as a predominant site of spread. The multinational phase 3 EPOCH study evaluated transarterial radioembolization (TARE) added to second-line chemotherapy for colorectal liver metastases (CLM). Addition of TARE to chemotherapy resulted in longer median PFS and longer median hepatic PFS, but not longer overall survival. The authors conclude that further subset analyses are needed to better define the ideal patient population that would benefit from TARE.
