Multinational phase 3 study of elacestrant versus standard endocrine therapy for ER-positive, HER2-negative advanced breast cancer
Dr. Aditya Bardia
Patients with pretreated ER-positive/HER2-negative advanced breast cancer have poor prognosis. The multinational phase 3 EMERALD trial evaluated the novel oral selective estrogen receptor degrader elacestrant versus standard-of-care endocrine therapy for these patients. Elacestrant versus SOC significantly reduced the risk of progression or death by 30% among all patients (p=0.002) and by 45% among patients with detectable ESR1-mutation (p=0.0005). Elacestrant was discontinued for an adverse event in 6% of patients and SOC was discontinued in 4% of patients.
