A multicenter retrospective study in the USA investigated outcomes of cervical cancer in women living with HIV adherent (WLHW-A) or not adherent (WLWH-N) to highly active retroviral therapy (HAART), compared with cervical cancer outcomes in women without HIV (WWH). Durig median 47 months of follow-up, there were no significant differences between the groups for the endpoints local control and distant metastasis-free survival, while disease-free survival and overall survival were not significantly different between the groups WLWH-A and WWH, and were significantly worse in the WLWH-N group. The authors conclude that in the era of HAART, WLWH diagnosed with cervical cancer should receive curative treatment per standard guidelines, with the importance of adhering to HAART stressed by their therapists.
