Multicenter retrospective study of ovarian cancer onset across different BRCA mutation types
Prof. Giovanni Scambia
A retrospective study at three European centers evaluated the impact of different specific types of BRCA mutations on the age of high grade serous ovarian cancer. The BRCA1 gene was involved in 68.4% of patients, and the BRCA2 gene in 31.6%. The mean age at onset was 55.1 years, with a mean age 53.3 years in the BRCA1 patients versus 58.4 years in the BRCA2 patients (p=0.001). In both groups patients with a BRCA frameshift mutation had the highest age at onset. The authors conclude that, if confirmed in larger series, these findings might have clinical impact.
