Multicenter randomized phase 2 trial of proton craniospinal irradiation for leptomeningeal metastasis
Dr. Jonathan Yang
A multicenter randomized phase 2 trial in the United States compared proton craniospinal irradiation (pCSI) versus photon involved-field radiotherapy (IFRT) among patients with solid tumor leptomeningeal metastases (LMs). In this trial of 63 patients with non-small cell lung cancer or breast cancer LMs, there were superior CNS-PFS and overall survival outcomes with pCSI compared with IFRT. The authors conclude that these findings suggest that pCSI should be considered as a treatment option for LMs if available.
