There are few published studies prospectively assessing pharmacological interventions that may delay prostate cancer progression in patients undergoing active surveillance (AS). The multicenter randomised phase 2 ENACT study in the US and Canada showed that addition of enzalutamide to AS for low-risk or intermediate-risk localized prostate cancer was associated with significantly reduced risk of prostate cancer progression by 46% compared to AS alone. Enzalutamide monotherapy was well-tolerated (visual abstract).
