Multicenter phase 3 trial of adjuvant S-1 versus observation after resection of biliary tract cancer

S-1 has shown promising efficacy with a mild toxicity profile in patients with advanced biliary tract cancer (BTC). The phase 3 JCOG1202 trial, at 38 centers in Japan, evaluated adjuvant S-1 versus observation after resection of BTC. The trial showed that S-1, compared with observation, resulted in significant improvement of overall survival. S-1 was well tolerated. The authors conclude that adjuvant S-1 should be considered a standard of care for resected BTC in Asian patients.
