Multicenter phase 3 trial of adjuvant hormone therapy with or without chemotherapy for high-risk breast cancer in women aged 70 years and older
Prof. Etienne Brain
For women aged 70 years or older with ER-positive HER2-negative invasive breast cancer, hormone therapy is a standard adjuvant treatment, while the role of chemotherapy is debated. The phase 3 ASTER 70s study, at 84 centers in France and Belgium compared outcomes with adjuvant chemotherapy plus hormone therapy versus adjuvant hormone therapy alone in women aged 70 years or older with genomic grade index high risk ER-positive HER2-negative breast cancer. Addition of chemotherapy was not associated with survival benefit and was associated with a higher frequency of adverse events.
