Multicenter phase 3 trial of adding adebrelimab to first-line chemotherapy for extensive-stage small-cell lung cancer

Extensive-stage small-cell lung cancer (ES-SCLC) is associated with poor prognosis, while treatment options are scarce. The multicenter phase 3 trial CAPSTONE-1 in China evaluated addition of adebrelimab (anti-PD-L1) to standard first-line carboplatin-etoposide chemotherapy for ES-SCLC. Median overall survival was 15.3 months with adebrelimab-chemotherapy versus 12.8 months with placebo-chemotherapy. The safety profile of adebrelimab-chemotherapy was acceptable. The authors conclude that the combination adebrelimab-carboplatin-etoposide could be a new first-line treatment option for ES-SCLC.
