Multicenter phase 3 study of perioperative SOX versus FOLFOX for locally advanced, resectable gastric cancer
Perioperative chemotherapy is a potential treatment for locally advanced gastric cancer. However, the optimal chemotherapy regimen is not known. A multicenter randomized clinical trial in China compared perioperative SOX (S-1 plus oxaliplatin) versus perioperative FOLFOX (fluorouracil, leucovorin, and oxaliplatin) for locally advanced gastric cancer. The 3-year OS rate was 75.2% with SOX versus 67.8% with FOLFOX. The authors conclude that SOX was noninferior to FOLFOX. Perioperative SOX could be recommended for locally advanced gastric cancer in Asian patients.
