Multicenter phase 2 trial of perioperative chemoimmunotherapy with durvalumab for muscle-invasive urothelial carcinoma
Dr. Richard Cathomas
The integration of immunotherapy in the perioperative setting of muscle-invasive urothelial carcinoma (MIUC) appears promising. The phase 2 SAKK 06/17 trial, at 12 centers in Switzerland, evaluated the neoadjuvant combination of durvalumab plus gemcitabine-cisplatin (GC) chemotherapy followed by radical surgery and adjuvant durvalumab for operable MIUC. The two-year EFS and OS rates were 76% and 85%, respectively. The authors conclude that combination of perioperative durvalumab with standard chemotherapy for resectable MIUC resulted in high EFS and OS rates at two years.
