Patients with platinum-resistant or platinum-refractory ovarian cancer (PRROC) have limited therapeutic options. The phase 2 nonrandomized VIRO-15 trial with 27 PRROC patients who had a median of 4 prior lines of therapy, evaluated the oncolytic virotherapy olvimulogene nanivacirepvec followed by platinum-doublet chemotherapy with or without bevacizumab. An objective response was seen in 54% of patients, the median progression-free survival was 11.0 months, and the median overall survival was 15.7 months. The safety profile was manageable. The authors conclude that these results exceed historically expected outcomes from standard therapies or platinum rechallenge.
