Multicenter phase 2 trial of neoadjuvant chemotherapy plus camrelizumab for locally advanced cervical cancer

Patients with locally advanced cervical cancer have a poor prognoses and limited therapeutic options. The phase 2 NACI trial, at eight centers in China, evaluated the neoadjuvant combination of cisplatin and nab-paclitaxel chemotherapy plus camrelizumab (anti-PD-1) for these patients. Patients with complete or partial response proceeded to radical surgery, while patients with stable or progressive disease received concurrent chemoradiotherapy. Complete response was seen in 19% of patients and partial response in 79%. The most common grade 3 or 4 treatment-related adverse events were lymphopenia (25% of patients), neutropenia (12%), and leukopenia (8%). No serious adverse events or treatment-related deaths occurred. The authors conclude that neoadjuvant chemo-immunotherapy showed promising antitumor activity and a manageable adverse event profile in patients with locally advanced cervical cancer.
